Foreigner: Collected Writings 2017

Foreigner: Collected Writings 2017, is a newspaper printed in an edition of one thousand copies and combining photos from the British Journal of Photography’s International Photography Award 2017 project, Foreigner, with writing and interviews with some of the world’s leading specialists on the subject of the European migrant and refugee crisis, including texts from individuals that have experienced parts of this crisis first hand. The aim of this publication is to provide perspectives on the subject of migration that are not often found in the mainstream media. We feel that when journalism and public discourse move into the sphere of inflammatory language and misinformation, so often the real victims are forgotten.

In 2018 the publication was shortlisted for the Lucie Photobook Prize. Self-published by John Radcliffe Studio.

List of contributors: John Radcliffe Studio, Alexander Betts (Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford), Charles Heller and Lorenzo Pezzani (Forensic Architecture, Goldsmiths University), and Lindsey Hilsum (International Editor, Channel 4 News)

David Campany in The Photobook Review:

"The combination of black-and-white and colour photographs and succinct writing is exemplary. The design of the book is elegant, incorporating vellum map overlays and cleanly typeset text, and serves the material exceptionally well. This book matters now. It will also become a significant historical record."
